The most important aspect of partners Yoga that one should know before practicing is that it’s Fun!

Partners Yoga takes you on an often unexpected journey into the practice whether you’ve never tried Yoga before or you’re a seasoned practitioner. As with any Yoga practice it’s not about how flexible or strong you are and it’s not a competition with your partner or others in the class. What it is about is connection and support. Your partner will help guide you and support you in Yoga asana (poses) that if done correctly are simply not possible to do on your own. Strength and flexibility are a byproduct of practicing at a calculated pace and within your own limits, and it should be noted that partners in this practice can be and often are different sizes, shapes, and levels of experience. There need only be a willingness to support one another for two people to be paired together.

It can be a powerful model of connection both in the microcosm of a class and the macrocosm of the universe. During the class the partners enter into a practice that becomes one. Joining asana and intensions together can be a liberating and elevating experience for both participants. There is a level of trust that occurs between both individuals entering each asana, as they rely on each other for mutual support or balance to complete each pose. Whether your partner is a friend, companion, family member, or stranger a partner’s Yoga class can strengthen and reveal much about us as individuals as the connection to our partners and all that surrounds us unfolds.
